In June 2009, my friend convinced me to join Weight Watchers with her. My starting weight was 256.6. That number scared me, even though I didn't feel that big. That first weigh-in was the beginning of a lifestyle change. It's been a slow road with many bumps, but I'm slowly making progress towards my goal of 160. I've switched to calorie counting and I'm slowly trying to be a runner, which I never thought I would do.

I just went for a 5-mile walk with my friend for a total of 835 calories burned. No picture because my niece stole my watch.

JC Penney’s new ad for Father’s Day
The text reads:
“First Pals: What makes Dad so cool? He’s the swim coach, tent maker, best friend, bike fixer and hug giver—all rolled into one. Or two.” The text at the bottom reads: “Real-life dads, Todd Koch and Cooper Smith with their children Claire and Mason.”

Slow clap for JCP!

Hell yeah!! Take that Million Moms!

I let the holiday weekend get the better of me. Add to that my massive calorie burn on Saturday and I thought I had free rein to eat EVERYTHING. It carried over to yesterday but today is a new day. I find out something potentially exciting in two weeks and until then, it is going to be healthy eating everyday. No more cheat days on weekends, even if I did burn almost 3,000 calories.

In other news, I’m still sore today but can at least walk like a human again.

My pet peeve? Parents who dress their kids identically. Every. Day. The worst part? They are not twins. They are 1 and 3.

"As a woman, I feel continually shhh’ed. Too sensitive. Too mushy. Too wishy washy. Blah blah. Don’t let someone steal your tenderness. Don’t allow the coldness and fear of others to tarnish your perfectly vulnerable beating heart. Nothing is more powerful than allowing yourself to truly be affected by things. Whether it’s a song, a stranger, a mountain, a rain drop, a tea kettle, an article, a sentence, a footstep…feel it all – look around you- all of this is for you. Take it and have gratitude. Give it and feel love."

The most miserable hike ever. It felt never ending and just kept going up and up. Which meant it had to go down eventually, and steeply. Now we celebrate our accomplishment with pizza from our favorite place.

Seriously, I am too blessed. My feet were killing me so he switched shoes with me.
